Even more fodder for the speculation. X-Fan is back up or at least I can now get to it again. They have an interview with Austen.
2 tidbits.
on who will be featured Nightcrawler because I want to get him back to being fun again, like the sensitive prankster I loved as a kid.
X-FAN: Will Nightcrawler still be a priest-in-training?
AUSTEN: Time will tell.
So if/whether the priest thing will end is still up for debate. But it may well have run its course, which is sad because there was a lot of potential there. Religion as a plot device used in the relaunch of DareDevil was effective. Kurt's being a priest really hasn't added anything to the Uncanny stories YET! But it has been used rather well in the new NC Mini.

While I agree somewhat, BC, I think that the priest thing was a bad idea to start with. Religion can be a great plot device no doubt, but Kurt always had his deep faith...and MOST religious people never feel the need to take the step towards priesthood. The fact that that is such a HUGE step, essentially a totally different life direction, but hasn't been explained or really dealt with is what makes it a bad idea. The faith is great, but Kurt becoming a priest is as out of character as Daredevil becoming one. Something BIG would had to have happened to him to launch him down that path, and since that has NEVER even been HINTED at, I still feel that it's out of character and a BADLY HANDLED plot device.
Now, the resolution of the priest thing should be interesting because we'll get to see how he keeps his faith while coming to grips with how he "failed" at becoming a priest...
And if you're defending his becoming a priest becuase it puts religion into mainstream comics, just remember that Kurt was ALWAYS religious, ALWAYS full of faith, and the put religion into the X-Men looooong before this idea came to pass.

I speculated the death of Colossus brought about Kurt's change of direction. The life of an X-Man brought this terrible negativity to his life, his other main belief was God. So he went that direction to seek anwsers. Again, this is only my speculation.
Not defending the need of Religion in mainstream. It would be just a big change to drop the "Dog Collor", as dubbed by Churchill, as it was a big change to add it. Be kinda like Batman starts carrying a gun and killing people in the comics for about a two year run, then he stops. {And yes I do realize Bats has carried a gun in a few stories, I am talking a major arc that spans a few publishing years} As long as it is handled well whatever the direction, it is fine with me. I was just pointing out good uses of Religion in a few comics was all. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

I don't mind religion in comics. Kurt has always been religious, but religious does not equal fit for the priesthood.
I posted my review of the NC mini in the "Who's read Nighty 3" topic. In short, if Kipiniak was writing Kurt, I could accept him in the priesthood. It is that good.
I will, however, argue about just how much story potential there is for a priest character in the X-Men. He still needs to spend a few years as an under-priest: visiting the old folks home, hospitals, running literacy programs... helping a older priest run a parish, full time work, no flying off to save the world as an X-Man. Some compelling stories, no doubt, but you are not gonna see a lot of action. And it won't sell.

but.... Colossus died after Kurt became a priest in training...
i don't mind having a religious character, but i feel this was forced because he happens to look like a demon and they thought it would be ironic. normally i am all for a character evolving, but in this instence, i want a change back. he's become *boring*. true there may be *some* potential stories, but the possibilities are limited and would be excausted quickly. also, so far the only writer to be able to work the priest aspect into his character and keep him interesting was Kipiniak... aparently it is quite a difficult character trait for most writers to grasp, so i would rather it be ditched to bring back the old crawler because with the turnover rate lately, he will be written by several writers unless Austen proves to be a shocker and sticks around for more than a year or two. and under most writers, more often than not, i think his character would be handled poorly as a priest.
Besides, as mentioned i think he was made Catholic for silly reasons in the first place, what's done is done, true... but i still insist it is silly for him to be Catholic at all. i mean think of his background, he was raised by a sorceress! where did he get the notion to become Catholic in the first place, let alone follow thru with it to the point of joining the priesthood, if he was not raised in that religion? Catholosism is a fairly heavy duty religion here, it is not one that you pick up on a whim. if you are raised in a pagan or athiest background, trust me, it takes a LOT to consider following any form of organized religion. i speak from experience, being an athiest myself, with grandparents who would rahter my sister and i were raised to be good Catholics (my mother left the religion after she and my father were married and is now a steadfast athiest/agnostic, so i was raised an athiest from the beginning). it is NOT a simple thing to change your entire view of the world... if you are christian, would you consider switching to a pagan religion like worshipping the ancient Egyptian gods (for instance... and yes some people still worship them) for no reason? that is essentially what happened here.

Opps sorry sometimes I get forgetful. Thanks for catching.
It was after the X-Men battled Sinister that there was the 6 month gap, then we get back to the X-Men and wham Kurt's a priest in training.
So I was wrong. And they never really touched on it. Though Peter's death could have been a good catalyst.
I do understand why the writers wish to drop continuity. There is just so much to remember for just one character not to mention the whole team and any villians they face.
But I will say it would be nice to see Kurt the fun hearted guy again, but just so long as he isn't considered the mascot of the team again.

I'll drink to that!
Anything meaningful I could say has already been said by somebody. I am happy that Austen seems as suprised that Kurt's a priest wannabe as we fans were.
I would prefer to get a resolution on that Supreme Pontiff crap before Casey leaves though. Kurt's already screwed up enough, he doesn't need big hanging plot points all over everywhere.
